Have your say in the Sunday Times Literary awards

The Sunday Times Literary Awards have become recognised for their challenging judging standards. Of 33 titles originally selected for the fiction prize and 43 selected for the Alan Paton Award for non-fiction this year, two panels of judges have shortlisted just five titles in each category.

Now you can have your say by selecting one title in each category that you think should be the winner (see below for details of the finalists). We’re giving away five signed sets of all ten shortlisted titles plus 10 annual subscriptions to the Sunday Times to 15 lucky Fanatics members. Plus two members will win double tickets to the Awards gala evening in Johannesburg on 1st August.

Pick up a copy of the entry form at any Exclusive Books store – complete and hand it to a bookseller. But please don’t delay! The literary awards take place on Saturday 1st August and our competition has to close on 24th July to allow time to advise the lucky winners.

The Alan Paton Award has become established as one of the most coveted prizes for non-fiction writing in South Africa, rewarding careful research, honesty, understanding and sheer hard work. This year’s finalists are Street Blues by Andrew Brown; Choice Not Fate – The Life & Times of Trevor Manuel by Pippa Green; In a Different Time by Peter Harris; A Simple Freedom by Ahmed Kathrada with Tim Couzens; and Three-Letter Plague by Jonny Steinberg.

The Sunday Times fiction prize recognises writers who create highly original and exciting novels that make really compelling reading. The five titles that have made it through to the final selection are Whiplash by Tracey Farren; The Impostor by Damon Galgut; Bodies Politic by Michiel Heyns; The Rowing Lesson by Anne Landsman; and The Lost Colours of the Chameleon by Mandla Langa.
